BSAC 007 history

Incorporated in 1954 we have always been a vibrant and out-going club. We have enjoyed the sponsorship of the likes of David Bellamy and our achievements were formally recognised by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

However, we are not backward looking and although our older members may be "pensioners" our youngest are certainly not old enough to vote! We have a widely diverse background of members not only in age but in worklife, experience and expectations from diving.

Some are interested in archaeology, history or underwater photography...and some in lobsters for tea!

We have been based at Sussex Yacht Club in Shoreham-by-Sea for the last decade and hope to extend this relationship even further in the future.

Our real objective is to continue to encourage more people to have the enormous fun of diving safely and responsibly in the UK.

What the members say...

"I would never have extended my diving without joining and participating in the club. I was taken from PADI advanced right through to BSAC Advanced and my mentor was instrumental in fully introducing me into the fun of UK diving. You know so little at the beginning and really need the kindness and experience of others to get onto the next stage"
TV 2009

"People really have been so friendly and right beyond just helping me do more diving. As I have recently been unable to dive the people, club and stuff they get up to has really helped me enormously".
BB 2009

"I've been a club member for 31 years - what more do you want to know?!"
DD 2009

"I've been diving with the club for a year and have had loads of fun. I'm now 15 so they have to take me seriously!"
